About

What is Flopjack.com?

A website.

I mean, what is it about?

Flopjack.com is a place where people can go with common interests to learn about, discuss or just have fun with creative productions. This includes (but definitely is not limited to) comics/manga, webcomics, cartoons/anime, movies, music, design, Flash games and other animations, poetry, writing, traditional art, abstract art or digital art. In essence: the celebration of creativity.

What is the Vending Machine?

The Vending Machine is a place where you can find articles, videos or any other kind of interesting treat that is featured for everyone to see. Maybe it’s funny, maybe it’s serious or maybe it’s just off the wall. It’s not limited to art either; it can potentially be about anything as long as we find it eye brow raising or smile making.

So it’s a blog, why not just call it that?

Blogs can have a slight negative connotation to them because there are so many. So instead of chancing someone thinking: Oh, it’s one of these things again. And passing it up, we decided to make it a little off beat to perk some interest. The idea is you go by a vending machine and get a small snack or munchy. It’s the same thing here too. You can come on by for some ‘food for thought’, a laugh or some other interesting idea.

The forums are easy to understand, but what kind of discussions can there be?

Anything, literally anything! The goal of our forums is to make a huge archive that is easy to navigate where you can talk about whatever you want, which again, isn’t limited to art. You can talk about what happened in your favorite episode last night, the latest issue or your favorite character with people not entirely different from yourself. You could discuss which character would beat who and why or a talk about politics.

Won’t those start some tension in your forums?

Believe it or not, two human beings can talk about something controversial or sensitive like politics and not kill each other. You can talk about anything you like but be sure to see if there is a topic about it already lest your thread gets locked. Do not flame, troll, curse or otherwise put down other members. A sort of ‘Zero Tolerance’ rule is in effect to quickly extinguish any kind of flame. There will be very little lenience given to those who to not abide the rules.

I don’t see a specific topic in the forum that I want to post about.

Don’t worry! We want to include as many possible discussions as we can. In order for another topic to be added there must be 20 people requesting a particular subject. Each person in those requests must have at least 50 posts and the span must be within one week from the first inquiry to the last. Once those criteria have been met a new forum for those fans will open! Check out the Feedback forums for more details.

Can I use what another artist did in his/her animation/comic/game in my website?

You must consult that artist first! Probably the largest insult to an artist is taking their work without their permission; it is stealing. We want to promote and support as many artists as we can here at Flopjack.com and encourage people to learn about their favorite subject and grow together. Do not take or claim someone else’s work.

I want to help here at Flopjack.com. I want to be a writer/moderator/senior position/etc.

That is fantastic! In order to make sure we deliver the highest quality to our users we will have to choose our staff carefully. In a sort of application process, we’ll need to see evidence of experience in your desired position of leadership. We also want to see sincerity. Creativity is very important to us and the world and the leaders of it need are the role models of younger artists and you must reflect that.

What else can we expect from Flopjack.com?

There will be other features added in time. You will definitely be posted on each new thing that comes! Podcasts, videos, articles and lots of other content can be expected!

How did you decide on the name Flopjack? Does it mean anything?

This is a question our lead web designer can answer in better detail, but the short version is that it stands out. Initially, there wasn’t supposed to be anything resembling pancakes. Jokingly we made them first because Flopjack is similar to the word flapjack, which is a pancake, after some insisting on keeping it that way, we have. You will remember the pancakes, the name and our unique website. Most of all, we hope you remember fondly the people you meet here.

Anything else interesting I should know?

We intend to promote small(er) named artists or companies with our advertising. To help ourselves out as well as them at reduced costs. We’d love to feature their work and link our users to their merchandise or available skills so they can also benefit from Flopjack.com.

I have a suggestion/question/concern about Flopjack.com.

Excellent! We want to hear what you have to say. If you can think of a cool idea to improve Flopjack.com or noticed something could use fixing don’t hesitate to tell us in our forums here. It would be foolish to think that we have all the answers. As artists, we not only learn by doing but we also learn from each other.
