Entry 8: Gaming Reviews
Before you purchase a video game, today you can look up some major site like IGN or Gamespot and get a "review" of the game followed by a 0-10 score to see if you may want to purchase it or not. This is an excellent idea if reviewers weren't retarded.
First of all is a conspiracy. For some time, it's been brought to my attention that reviewers use a 7-10 scale, meaning companies and advertisers that are paying the reviewing sites for ads and space for their games are paying their way into a higher scored review:
Bull crap! If you didn't earn a 9.8/10 you don't get one! This encourages a mediocre outlook on games because consumers (I don't use gamers because they should know what makes a good game!) are unaware of what makes a game good. This in turn sells the below average games which makes the companies money and they are in turn encourages to keep creating bad games. Penny Arcade, a popular webcomic website who also review games on occasion gave a bad review to a game and that company told them they were not sending them their games for free anymore to be reviewed.
Games like an RTS or a vast RPG should not be reviewed for at least a week. There is simply no way to make a fair judgment after only skimming through single player of these kinds of games. RTS is far too in depth and the reality is the meta will change so many times if the developers even patch it a few times, you can't possibly make a two day recommendation or a score that's fair. You can if your being paid to give the score!
