Baskets of Fake Grass, Jelly Beans and Cadbury Eggs, New Dresses and Suits, Big Hats, 40 People on Stage with a Mic, Crosses with Fireworks coming out of them, "Be on your best behavior or your candy is GONE when we get home!"...What does Easter really mean? What's it really all about? Why does it really matter?
I think a lot of times the Message behind Easter gets lost in translation...Why is it really important that we all have something new to wear to church and that the kids' clothes match mom's dress and dad's tie? Why is so much effort and money poured into Easter Sunday and yet most every other Sunday...scratch that...every Day doesn't seem to mean nearly as much.
Ok...I get it...SO many people only show up to church on Easter and Christmas and so "we better get em while we have the opportunity"...but maybe if we "loved" those people every other day of the year...and "lived" out the Easter message in our daily lives, we'd reach those people with a genuine message that would last longer than an hour and a half and stick with them past lunch at Cracker Barrel. And maybe...just maybe...that'd give them a reason to come back to church more often than just Christmas and Easter.
